About the Veterans Hockey League (VHL)
The Veterans Hockey League (VHL) is an adult hockey program based in the Chicagoland area, established in 2019 with a clear purpose: to support our local military veterans through the game we all love. Our mission is simple — keep veterans on the ice by using the sport of hockey as a powerful source of connection, community, and overall well-being.
While the VHL was founded to uplift military veterans, our events are open to all participants 21 years of age and older. Civilian teams, military veterans, firefighters, and law enforcement personnel are all welcome to take part. We believe the game is stronger — and the impact is greater — when the entire community comes together under one mission and one sheet of ice.
At this time, the VHL operates exclusively through showcase games and special events, bringing together a unique mix of veteran, civilian, and first-responder players in competitive yet mission-driven environments. Moving forward, the VHL will continue to focus on hosting game showcases that promote camaraderie, teamwork, community engagement, and the physical and mental wellness of those who serve and support our communities.
The Veterans Hockey League is proudly affiliated with Level Zero Heroes Hockey and has joined their mission to raise awareness and support for the SameYou Foundation, which focuses on recovery and rehabilitation for brain injury survivors. While the VHL participates in this shared purpose, the league itself does not request or receive funds on its own behalf. All charitable efforts connected to VHL events are conducted exclusively through Level Zero Heroes Hockey and its established fundraising channels.
